GUILTY or NOT? CDN version

Terms of Use

Last updated: October 1, 2026 · Applies to everydefence.ca/guilty-or-not/

1. Agreement

These terms govern your use of GUILTY or NOT? CDN version (the “Game”), operated by Bornfreund Legal Services, PC (“we”, “us”). By playing, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Notice. If you do not agree, do not use the Game.

2. Entertainment, not legal advice

The Game is for entertainment only. It presents real court decisions in a simplified, game format. It is not legal advice or a substitute for advice from a lawyer licensed in your province. Playing the Game, entering a judge name or submitting a verdict does not create a lawyer–client relationship with us or with Every Defence LLP. Do not put information about your own legal matter into the Game. If you are facing a charge, speak to a lawyer.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Game. We do not verify age and may end access where this requirement is not met.

4. The cases

Every case is a real, reported Canadian court decision. To make a daily puzzle, the facts are summarised and simplified, and parties are not named until the reveal. A summary may leave out facts, issues or later developments, including appeals, that matter to the law. For the authoritative text, read the decision itself using the citation shown on the reveal screen.

5. Judge names

Judge names appear on a public leaderboard. Do not use a name that is offensive, impersonates someone, uses another person’s real name, or contains personal or contact information. We may change or remove any judge name, and the scores attached to it, at our discretion.

6. Fair play

You agree not to: use bots, scripts or automated means to play or submit verdicts; collect the Game’s content or data by scraping beyond ordinary personal use; interfere with or try to gain unauthorised access to the Game or its servers; or manipulate scores, streaks, votes or the leaderboard. We may remove results and end access for anyone who does.

7. Ownership

The Game, including its design, text, summaries, scoring and graphics, is owned by Bornfreund Legal Services, PC. The underlying court decisions are public records. You may share your own results and links to the Game; you may not copy or republish the Game or its case summaries for commercial use without our written permission.

8. Free to play

The Game is free. There are no purchases or subscriptions in the Game.

9. No warranty; limitation of liability

The Game is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from reliance on the Game’s content. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law.

10. Changes and ending the Game

We may change, pause or end the Game, or update these terms, at any time. Updated terms take effect when posted here with a new date. Continuing to play means you accept them.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The courts of Ontario sitting in Toronto have jurisdiction over any dispute about the Game, subject to any right you have under the law where you live.
